How to keep your dog cool in Summer
Keeping your dog cool in during the hot Summer months is important to avoid overheating. We should be prepared for the heat waves in advance to help reduce the risk of your dog suffering from heatstroke. We have put together our top summer dog care tips, so you can enjoy the sun in safety with your best friend.
- Buy a cooling mat that helps regulate your dog’s body temperature
- Keep your dog in shaded areas away from direct sunlight
- Get a paddling pool for your dog to play and cool down
- Make sure your dog has access to water at all times
- When travelling make sure to bring a travel water bottle on hand
- Buy a cooling bandana or collar for your dog
- Soak a rope toy in water and freeze it or else buy an ice toy for your dog
- Plan your walks and avoid midday sun
- Get suncream for your dog as they are also at risk of sunburn
Symptoms of heatstroke include:
- Vomiting or Diarrhea
- Severe panting
- Dehydration- dry nose, tiredness, sunken eyes
- Fever
- Excessive drooling
- Rapid pulse
- Weakness
